Ruslan Kassim clutching a phallic object and enjoying every second of it
There’s a fine line between rhetoric and actual calls for violence. Ruslan Kassim, a Muslim and ranking member of racist group Perkasa, doesn’t really know where that line is. In a recent speech at a rally, Kassim used some rather colorful imagery to describe the group’s political opponents.
Perkasa is a sociopolitical organization built around the premise that ethnic Malays’ rights are being infringed upon by the country’s various minorities. Of course, much of its original racist purpose has been twisted into a pro-sharia platform. Kassim, as a Muslim, is A-OK with this. He’s a pretty big fan of sharia. In fact, he wants to see his political opponents silenced the good old-fashioned Islamic way: “If they continue to ridicule the religion and the sultan, we will chop off their heads,” he said of Perkasa’s opposition. “It is better they get lost, better they die, better they don’t live in this country than be a disease, a virus and a parasite on our religion, race and country.”
A Muslim calling others parasites? Pardon me while I laugh. In Europe, it is estimated that up to 80% of Muslim immigrants live on the dole. As for the whole beheading thing – in any civilized country, such a threatening statement would be met with a visit from the authorities. But in an Islamic country like Muslim-majority Malaysia, severing heads doesn’t seem to be particular cause for consternation.
“Sometimes, we need the blood of martyrs and we are willing to die to defend the name of Allah,” Kassim said in reference to the controversy over the use of the word “Allah” in certain Malay-language Bibles. One minute, Muslims are saying that their god is more or less a progression from the god of Christianity, the next, they’re threatening Christians who refer to their god by a certain word. Time and again we see evidence like this suggesting Islam is truly the religion of peace.
