American Muslim preacher Khaled Yassin has been denied entry to Russia as he attempted to land in Moscow.
Yassin, who had been invited to Moscow to attend the Halal Expo's opening ceremony, was told that his invitation had been cancelled due to 'technical problems' stemming from strained relations between Russia and the West.
Madina Kalimullina, the economic director at the Russian Mufti Council, said that Khaled Yassin was turned away due to problems between Russia and the US. It was also said that instead of participating on the Expo directly, Yassin would still participate via a webcam teleconference.
Khaled Yassin, who is currently based in the UK, is constantly travelling around the world to give influential speeches on various topics to audiences of both Muslims and non-Muslims. His talks have convinced hundreds across the world to adopt the Islamic faith.
However, in March he was banned from entering the Nogay district in the Russian republic of Dagestan after being labelled a 'radical' by authorities.
