An office building in Wilmington might be turned into a new mosque, but the idea has some neighbors concerned.

The Islamic community is growing in Wilmington and now looking for more space. They found an empty office building on Rankin Street, but rezoning is not the only obstacle they have run into.



"We're growing just like the larger community," said Musa Agil, chariman of the Islamic Center of Myrtle Grove. "They are growing, and they need to build new churches and synagogues everywhere, and we are, too."



Agil says that is why they want to turn a vacant office building at 16th and Rankin streets into a mosque. The building is nestled right in the middle of the historic district.



"We hear everything," a concerned neighbor said. "Just the thought of 4:30 in the morning hearing doors slamming."



The homeowner, who did not want to be identified, says early-morning prayers at the mosque are not the only thing she is worried about. In order to use this space the islamic learning center has to get a conditional district rezoning petition approved. This will change the use of the building from an "office" to a "religious institution."



"We are all just too worried about the loss of property value, and the amount of people it's going to bring into the neighborhood," the woman said. "This neighborhood isn't built for an extra thousand people."



Agil does not think the location of any kind of religious organization should be an issue.



"The American people are very understanding people, and they're very educated, intelligent people. They practice their religious right every day," he said. "I don't think they would want to stop somebody from practicing his or her right."



The planning commission will meet July 9 at 6 p.m. in the City Council chambers to consider rezoning the property. They want to hear from anyone who has any objections or concerns.

"IT MAY NOT BE LONG BEFORE THE GROUP MOUNT A DEADLY TERROR ATTACK DIRECTED TO U.S. AND ITS ALLIES" AL QAEDA'S TOP BOMB MAKER WHO INVENTED "UNDERWEAR BOMB" JOINS ISIS IN IRAQ

A bomb expert who is said to have created the "underwear bomb" used in the 2009 failed terror attack on a Detroit flight has joined the group of Islamic militants advancing into Iraq.



Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri, Al-Qaeda's chief bomb-maker, has recently pledged allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or ISIS, according to intelligence reports reaching the U.S. capital.



The successful advance of ISIS militants into a wide swath of Iraqi territory has reportedly inspired top terrorists like al-Asiri to become eager recruits of the ISIS.



Intelligence officials who requested anonymity say Hassan al-Asiri is the guy that keeps them awake at night because they never know what he is up to next.



In the summer of 2009, he was responsible for building a bomb from a powdery explosive that was hard to detect, which he inserted into the rectum of his brother, Abdullah al-Asiri.



The younger al-Asiri was on a mission to kill Saudi Arabia's Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, who survived the attack with a slight head injury while al-Asiri died.



Then in December of that year, on Christmas day, Hassan al-Asiri put together an "underwear bomb" that was used in an attempt to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight bound for Detroit with 289 people on board.



The new type of bomb was smuggled into the plane by Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, then 23, by hiding it in his underwear.



The bomb failed to detonate as the flight descended on Detroit but caused a fire that engulfed Abdulmutallab, who later told the court that he participated in the terror plot to avenge the killing of Muslims by the U.S.



Abdulmutallab is serving a life sentence that was handed down by a U.S. court in February 2012.



Despite the failure of his two explosive devices, Hassan al-Asiri developed yet another 'ingenious' bomb in 2010: printer cartridge stuffed with 400 grams of PETN, which is similar to ink toner powder, and connected it to a timer and detonator inside a laser printer.



The printer bombs were then brought to UPS and FedEx branches in Yemen, where they were loaded into cargo planes bound for the U.S, but were intercepted by Dubai and British authorities.



With Hassan al-Asiri joining the ISIS, the intelligence community believes that it may not take long before the group would mount a deadly terror attack directed to the U.S. and its allies.

"SO THE UK IS AFRAID" MUSLIM FROM UK WAGING JIHAD IN SYRIA TWEETS PHOTO OF HOMEMADE BOMBS

Pictures of what appear to be over a dozen homemade bombs have been posted by a person who claims to be one of the British men currently fighting with a jihadist group in Syria.



The man claiming to be Nasser Muthana, 20, the Briton who appeared alongside two other British citizens in a video posted by Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isis) two weeks ago, has posted an image of what seems to be 15 homemade bombs above the words: “So the UK is afraid I come back with the skills I’ve gained.”



Alongside the picture of the homemade bombs, the man claiming to be Muthana also posted an image of a homemade weapon that was, according to the post, seized from an enemy Shia Muslim.

Indonesian Islamic cleric Saeful Sardi Jayadi was at odds with his religion. Though he considered himself a devoted servant of the invisible sky-demon Allah, his body was telling him something wasn’t right with his oppressive faith. For example, why couldn’t he explore his kinks? What was so awful about his innate urges that made Allah declare them haram (forbidden)? One day, Jayadi’s iman (faith) caved… and he made evidence of it.

Of course, the sex tape of Jayadi having a threesome with two women was not well-received by his fellow Muslims. It was leaked after Jayadi gave the video to an associate for a private collection. Instead of just being run out of his mosque, Jayadi was thrown behind bars, because that’s what Muslims do to anyone who tries to enjoy themselves. Let’s not forget the obvious hypocrisy of Jayadi preaching sexual oppression (Islam) while not being able to practice it.

Jayadi attempted to flee the region but was captured. The local police chief, Didik “Dickbag” Purwanto, commented on the arrest: “[Jayadi] has deliberately produced a porn video for a private collection.” Purwanto noted that the six-minute video could mean a 12-year jail sentence for the cleric. Really?! It was sex between consenting adults! No one should go to jail for that! Yet again, we see how Islamic law is completely incompatible with our liberal, secular values and society. The more Muslims we allow into the west, the more likely they will start pushing for barbaric laws like Indonesia’s.

While Ms. Kamal believes misperceptions of Islam are largely propagated through negative media coverage, a particular nadir came in 2012 after the infamous Innocence of Muslims video offended and sparked outrage across the Muslim world.



“Many Muslims overreacted,” she says. “The Prophet’s reaction wouldn’t be that way … People insulted him sometimes and he ignored them totally because he was focused on the big picture.”



She brainstormed with a friend, Mahmoud Abou-Elneel, about what they could do to show a different – truer – view of their religion. Their first initiative was to distribute flowers on Mother’s Day, with Quranic verses attached about the value of family. The initiative grew and soon the pair were thinking bigger.



“I thought it might be impossible,” Ms. Kamal says. “But if you have a goal and you want to reach it, you’re gonna reach it. This is what I believe.”



While last year’s inaugural campaign saw 85 ads run inside TTC cars and platforms, and focused on messages of compassion, this year’s, on station platform posters, will focus on practical advice. “We want to show that Islam is not just a religion in a mosque. It’s a way of life.”



One of the posters quotes the Prophet Mohammed as saying “Do not waste water even if you are standing at the banks of a flowing river.” Others cover finances, relationships, community, and health.



The campaign costs a total of $10,000, which was sponsored in part by Salaheddin Islamic Centre in Scarborough, and through individual donations.

"OUR OBSERVATION IS THAT CONDOMS ARE FUELING HIV AND AIDS" MUSLIM LEADERS DEMAND GOVERNMENT BAN CONDOMS (MALAWI)

In a desperate attempt to curb expansion of HIV and AIDS in the Malawian society, Muslim traditional leaders have demanded a ban on condom use for unmarried people, arguing it was fueling the spread of the pandemic in the secular, but diverse religious southern African nation.



“Islam has always been against use of condoms outside the confines of marriage,” Dr. Imran Shareef, Secretary General of the country’s supreme Muslim body, Ulama Council of Malawi, told OnIslam.net.



“We allow condoms to be used only for discordant couples and in situations, where a mother is breast feeding for about 2 years, but other than that, we are totally against it. Its ban would save the next generation of this country from further peril.”

Dr Shareef was commenting on the recent debates the surrounded the use of condoms in Malawi.



The debates erupted after a group of Muslim traditional leaders from the predominantly Muslim south stunned activists of HIV and AIDs recently during a public debate on gender, HIV and AIDS organized by the country’s Network of AIDs Service Organizations (MANASO).



“As traditional leaders, we have noted with grave concern at the rate we are losing young men and women who could have been productive citizens of our country due to the pandemic. Our observation is that condoms are fueling HIV and AIDs,” an influential Senior Chief Kadewere told the debate.



“If government could ban them and declare that anyone unmarried found using it, should face the law. This could help curb the spread of this deadly disease.”



Kadewere added: “Unmarried people are having sex for fun because there are condoms. But if you observe in Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia where condoms are banned, the HIV and AIDS prevalence rate is very low. People are using condoms here, when they sleep with strangers, but when they get to know each other, they stop using them.



“If these were banned, people could be afraid to be promiscuous, because they would doubt each other’s statuses. If there are people who can abstain they will start practicing abstinence when the condoms are outlawed. Abstinence was the only powerful tool among unmarried people that would help minimize the rate at which the pandemic is being spread and nothing else.”

Concurring with Kadewere, Senior Chief Likoswe said in the past, it was possible for children to heed abstinence messages from their parents “but that has been eroded by the social marketing of condoms.”



“We had ‘condoms’ before and they were in form of a message that a boys and girls should stay away from each other. This worked wonders during that time, but that’s gone.”

TO MAKE WAY FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW HOSPITAL AUTHORITIES DEMOLISH CHURCH GIVING CONGREGATION 24 HOURS NOTICE BUT LEAVE MOSQUE STANDING ON THE SAME PLOT OF LAND (SUDAN)

Sudanese authorities demolished the Church of Christ in Thiba Al Hamyida, North Khartoum on 30 June, after giving the church’s leaders 24 hours notice of the action. However, a mosque on the same plot of land was left standing.



After their Sunday service on 29 June was interrupted by the authorities, who announced the planned demolition, the church’s leader Rev Kwa Shamal appealed to the North Khartoum Commissioner, providing evidence that the Church of Christ was the legitimate owner of the land on which the church was built.



Morning Star news reported that Abdel Aziz Omer, office director for the commissioner, informed Rev Shamal that the government had intended to destroy the church since 2012 to make way for the construction of a hospital. However, the church building was destroyed while a mosque located on the same plot of land was allowed to stand.



Christians in Sudan have come under increasing pressure since the secession of South Sudan on 9 January 2011. In April 2013, the government announced that new church licences would no longer be issued. Since then the destruction of church buildings has continued unabated. Christians have also faced detention and interrogation by the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS), with several non-Sudanese Christians being deported at short notice.
