Members of the Tamil Nadu Towheed Jamath staged protest demonstrations in a number of places across the State, demanding implementation of key recommendations of the Sachar and Mishra Committee reports. Primary among the demands was the 10 percent reservation for Muslims in education and jobs in Central government institutions.
In Chennai, protests saw a huge turnout near the Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore. Police estimates varied between 8,000 and 12,000 protestors. The crowd also featured women and children from the Muslim community. They also demanded the implementation of the 3.5 percent quota in TN. Over 5,000 protestors were picked up by the police and released in the evening.
JUST LIKE EVERYWHERE ELSE MUSLIMS IN INDIA CANNOT SURVIVE WITHOUT GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS AND SPECIAL TREATMENT.
