Your Daily Muslim: Mehrzad Malekzadeh

Mehrzad Malekzadeh is going to be wearing all white for a long time.

When a non-Muslim has a psychotic break, normally they start spouting off about aliens or conspiracy theories. When a Muslim loses their mind (normally early in childhood due to indoctrination with fairytales), their reactions are frequently more dramatic. Case in point: Iranian Muslim Mehrzad Malekzadeh, who decided it would be a good idea to strap what appeared to be a bomb to himself and behave like a lunatic outside a Texas Wal-Mart.

Malekzadeh finished making his glorified prop, meant to look like a bomb, and walked in front of the local Target. He was carrying a knife at the time. After realizing more people were going to Wal-Mart because it’s cheaper, he gravitated toward the entrance of that store. Many customers were likely undeterred, knowing their 100+-pound shields of blubber would shield them from much of any blast. The “bomb” consisted largely of rocks taped together, but it was enough of a threat to cause the establishment to be locked down. Police were contacted. Malekzadeh was delusional and non-combative, according to officers on the scene, who talked him down and removed his failure of a fashion accessory. He was taken into custody, likely thinking he had become a shahid (martyr) and was being guided into Jannat al-Firdaus (Islamic heaven.) When he arrived in holding, I doubt the resident population resembled the 72 virgins he had in mind.

Malekzadeh was charged with making terroristic threats and displaying a hoax bomb.
