The Lebanese army said Friday it detained five Syrian refugees in operations on the outskirts of the eastern Bekaa border town of Arsal on terrorism charges.
An army statement said the detained men were apprehended inside Syrian refugee camps in the area.
According to the statement, a Syrian national was charged of being with the al-Qaida-linked terrorist group of "Abdallah al- Azzam brigades" while four others for the possession of cameras, computers and CDs, in which materials show their participation in trainings with terrorist groups.
An army commando unit launched the raids early Friday after combing the outskirts of the Arsal to apprehend wanted gunmen who are accused of assaulting Syrian refugee camps in Wadi Hmeid area and abducting several Syrian nationals and a Lebanese citizen Tuesday.
