ITALY DEPORTS FIFTY MUSLIM OPPORTUNISTS BACK TO EGYPT

Italian authorities deported Friday 50 Egyptians for illegal residence and immigration, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

The deported were either detained for living in Italy after their visas had expired or captured by Italian authorities while trying to enter Italy illegally.

The deported Egyptians arrived in Cairo aboard a plane from Catania, located on Italy's east coast. They were handed over to Egyptian airport authorities who reveiwed their personal information before entry to the country in order to ensure they didn't have court verdicts issued against them.

On Friday, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported that the Italian navy rescued 175 illegal immigrants from a ship amid high seas, many of which were Egyptians.

Hundreds of Egyptians, in search of better work opportunities, have been caught in similar attempts to migrate to Italy over the past few years. A number have drowned in the process.
